** A DELICIOUS AND WONDERFULY COMPLEX WINE...SIMILAR IN PROFILE
** TO TUSCANY'S TERRIFFIC VERNACCIA
"A pale straw-yellow color with green glints, a fruity, citrusy, tropical aroma, a complex dry taste with nuances of papaya, peaches, mangos and sage, and a lingering, floral finish. Will pair well with all seafood, fresh cheeses, especially mozzarella. Perfect for al fresco dining."
"The Pecorino vine is indigenous to Marche and Abruzzo. It is the “shepherds’ vine,” linked to the hills where, for centuries, shepherds have grazed their flocks. Although widely cultivated in the 19th century, the Pecorino was almost extinct by the mid-20th century. Today it is being kept alive by a handful of growers, who prefer working with autochthonous vines. We applaud their efforts, preferring to taste native wines."

THE WINERY: Di Rienzo wines are made by the Spinelli family winery in Atessa, Abruzzo. They are
controlled and certified by the Mediterranean Diet Club of Pescara.
Today, brothers Carlo and Adriano Spinelli run the family
wine business. Although grape growers for many generations in Atessa in the
Province of Chieti, Spinelli started producing wine in 1973. They began
bottling in 1992. Spinelli owns 40 hectares of vineyards, 20 of which are the
Santa Margherita site, which is responsible for the Terra d’Aligi wines.
Spinelli wines are known for power and grace. In a region dominated by large
co-ops, Spinelli is one of the most important family owned wineries.
THE VINE:
The Pecorino vine is indigenous to Marche and Abruzzo. It is
the “shepherds’ vine,” linked to the hills where, for centuries, shepherds have
grazed their flocks. Although widely cultivated in the 19th century, the
Pecorino was almost extinct by the mid-20th century. Today it is being kept
alive by a handful of growers, who prefer working with autochthonous vines. We
applaud their efforts, preferring to taste native wines.
THE WINE:
The vines for Di Rienzo Pecorino are grown on the hills near
a Roman Temple to the deity of Youth, in the Sangro River valley in the
province of Chieti, not far from the Adriatic Sea. The grapes are harvested in
late September.
A cold maceration and soft crushing is followed by 6 months
of aging in stainless steel tanks, in constant contact with the yeasts.
Bottling takes place in April, after which the wine is released. Enjoy Di
Rienzo Pecorino chilled and young with all types of light cuisine.
